Small Kitchen Makeover Reveal

The Giani countertop topcoat had to cure for 2 weeks but I'm happy to reveal the results! It was a bit time-consuming and it really took a lot of trial and error to get the look I wanted but I'm pretty happy with the results. Of course anything is better than the pink countertops we had before!

Small Kitchen Makeover

Since I moved into my house, I've done nothing with the kitchen. Can you believe I've lived with the pink countertops for 8 years?!? When I got engaged, the fiancé and I decided he would move into my house and we would rent his. There was just one catch. He would not move in with pink countertops. I knew I had to finally do something about the pink countertops. And since I'm still getting around to planning a wedding, I wanted something temporary to save some moola.
As it turns out, I had hired a contractor to renovate my bathroom and take care of a few other jobs around the house and he threw in painting the cabinets for free (well nothing really comes free does it?) I'm all about do it yourself but if this could save me some time, I was all for it especially because summertime is my busiest time at work.

The Kitchen When I moved in:
I brought the thermador stove with me. I got a great deal on it from one of my contacts wanting to get rid of some residential stoves.

The Kitchen with the cabinets painted white:

The contractors were still finishing up the work when this photo was taken. It immediately opened up the kitchen and made it feel twice as big!

So that about fixed the dated cabinets in the kitchen but that didn't solve the pink countertop dilemma. It just so happens, my friend had just refinished her countertops with the Giani Countertop painting kit. I immediately jumped at the chance to refinish my countertops. I didn't want anything dark due to the size of the kitchen and opted for the white diamond kit. I'm loving the look of Carrera marble countertops and although I knew it wouldn't look like true Carrera, I was still after that look.

Tomorrow, I'll reveal the step by step and the kitchen today! Have you ever used Giani? What was your experience?

Antique Chair Reveal

Hi everyone. I realize I'm a little slow at starting out my blog but I am super excited to reveal the makeover on the old antique chair I posted a few months back.

This is what the chair looked like before:

And...(drumroll please).....here is the after!

I started by carefully removing the old fabric. I cut the same pattern out using the original fabric. I then upholstered the chair with the new fabric using upholstery tacks. I finished it off with decorative trim in the same color. I love the rich blue velvet and I absolutely love the way it even makes the wood look so much richer. Stay tuned for my small kitchen makeover! Have a Great Weekend!

Updating an Old Antique Chair

Hello Bloggers! This is my first post on the blogosphere. For years I've followed other blogger sites but have never had the gumption to finally hit the launch button!

I finally decided to just bite the bullet and do it! Growing up, my mother and I would find treasures at antique shops and flea markets and we couldn't wait to get home to start working on the transformation. These are some of the best memories I have growing up. Call it a mother/daughter bonding experience or just the reward of unveiling the beautiful transformation of what was once someone else's trash! My mother taught me a lot and still does to this day.

For my first post, I decided to start small with an antique chair my mother and I purchased years ago at an antique store for $15 and could never decide what to do with it.

I apologize for the blurry photo. Yep you guessed it, I used my iPhone. The fiance' recently gave me a fancy new camera that I'm still learning to use so I will definitely be posting with that in the near future.

For this particular chair, I've chosen a navy blue velvet fabric. I'm really loving how navy blue velvet fabric gives chairs a plush look in design magazines. Imagine what a little fabric and trim will do to transform an old piece.
Do you have an old chair that needs updating? For just a few dollars, you can give it new life.

Stay tuned. I'll be posting the results very soon!
